Our client CM ADVOCATES LLP is a premier legal and business advisory firm in Kenya and within the East Africa Community (EAC) providing its customers with a one-stop-shop for their legal and business advisory needs. They are seeking to fill the following position: 

TAX ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATE

Principal Accountabilities:  

  • Undertake value added tax (VAT) refund audits, tax due diligence and tax health checks 
  • Liaise with the Kenya Revenue Authority on client issues in line with requirements 
  • Prepare and file individual and corporate tax returns, adhering to all relevant tax regulations 
  • Analyze financial statements and tax documents to identify potential tax liabilities and opportunities 
  • Maintain accurate and organized tax records for clients 
  • Assist the tax team in development of publications including tax alerts 
  • Handle Statements of Accounts 
  • Pursue client billings 
  • Undertake financial Statement preparation and analysis for tax clients 
  • Undertake internal controls and risk management 
  • Offer financial advisory and decision support 
  • Assist in preparation of accounts and tax returns for clients within the tax unit 
  • Participate in auditing financial information for clients within the Tax team 
  • Providing tax planning services based on current legislation 
  • Assist in developing and managing accounting operations  
  • Collect, analyze and summarize account information for clients in collaboration with the tax team 
  • Assists in developing periodic reports for management 

Qualifications, Experience, and knowledge: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (2nd Class Honours) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a tax-related role, preferably within a professional services firm; 
  • Ability to apply accounting software 
  • Must have a Professional qualification CPA (K)/ ACCA or any related professional course; 
  • Proven understanding of Kenyan income tax, withholding tax, VAT (Value Added Tax), and other relevant tax laws; 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel); 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; 
  • Must possess exceptional analytical capability and attention to detail; and 
  • Excellent report writing skills and customer service skills.
